Throughout history and across cultures, have been documented Methods? used to be able to have children of one sex. In ancient Greece, the man was placed on his right side during sex, if a man wanted by the Germans, in medieval times, they put a hammer under the bed if you wanted a boy and put the Danes under the scissors bed if wanted a girl. None of these methods worked. Sex is determined by a single sperm from 100 million or more competing to fertilize the egg in each ejaculation.

In 1984, Dr. Landrum B. Shettles published the book How Select the Sex of Your Baby? and write specific instructions for choosing the most favorable conditions for the conception of a child.

According to studies by Dr Shettles, the sperm with the Y chromosome (male) are smaller, faster and weaker than the sperm carrying the X chromosome (female), which are bigger, stronger and slower. The Dr Shettles method says that the most important thing is the time of the menstrual cycle of women at the time of sexual intercourse. The nearest sexual relationship at the time of ovulation, you have more chance of conceiving a woman and if the couple have sex 2 days before ovulation, or 2 days after ovulation, the chances of conceiving a boy increase. These data agree with the speed and strength of the X or Y sperm to fertilize the egg to arrive. Dr Shettles recommends many other things related to food, vaginal PH and positions that help in its method.

The method for choosing safer sex was developed in 1977 by geneticist Edward Fugger at the Genetics & IVF Institute, Fertility Center of Fairfax, Virginia. Dr Fugger offers a 85% confidence in choosing the sex. The procedure begins with separation of X sperm (female) or Y (male) sperm from the father, by a fluorescent dye that makes the difference between X and Y. Once separated, it is in vitro fertilization of the ovum of the mother with the desired chromosome, then to be implanted in the uterus. The method of Dr Fugger, reserved for couples with genetic diseases linked to sex and family for not choosing the sex of the baby itself.

It ‘important for every woman, even if it is not the first pregnancy, attending a specific course of preparation for motherhood because it has a chance to meet other pregnant women who share the same experience, including anxiety, and then speak a language in which we can recognize.

The exchange of experiences between women, knowledge and critical analysis of techniques and places of confinement, are meant to promote awareness and active management of birth.

In addition, work on the ground, breathing techniques and massage will help to dissolve the body accustomed to the discomfort that comes from having held a position, teaching not to oppose the forces acting from within during labor and childbirth but rather, learning to know and feel your body, and cooperating actively with the birth of your child.
Practice every day if possible, specific exercises will help your muscles and joints to melt and it will benefit the internal organs, spine and breath. While the body is dissolved, the mind and rilasserà able to perceive more deeply the harmony with your inner being and with your child.

In addition, courses are held in regular briefings on the mother – father – child, the care of the newborn, nutrition, breastfeeding, labor, childbirth, etc.. which are of great help to prepare for that great event is the arrival of a child at home.

It may be interesting and productive involvement in these activities the partners, both during the course both in the exercises which is good, as I said earlier, repeated daily at home.

On the morning before breakfast or the evening before dinner are the perfect moments. The space is easily detectable in any home, an area of 2 m. x 2 m. is more than enough, this space should be barrier-free and well ventilated, a gymnastic mat (also available at department stores) or a carpet complete the necessary equipment.

It ‘a good idea to wear a suit handy in natural fabric, no metal on him, relaxing music, the answering machine and we can begin inserted.

SOME RECOMMENDATIONS
The exercises must be performed with the rhythm of breathing. Do not hold your breath during the movement but, rather, the inspiration used to prepare the motion and the expiratory muscles at work.

The breath is always abdomen; inspired fills the abdomen and diaphragm descends massaging the internal organs.

Exhale, gently abdominal muscles contract and the movement should not affect the chest, if not later.

If the supine position you discomfort you feel sore schienapotete use a pillow under the lumbar or bend your knees placing his feet to the ground and if you feel dizzy, to compress the large abdominal vessels (more frequent in the last month pregnant, then get on the left side, sollevatevi fours and then avoided taking positions from lying.
Get regular check dall’ostetrica during pregnancy in order to know exactly your situation.
Do the exercises that you can easily, and not forced in doubt, ask the midwife.

What to wear
It seems that the choice of ‘suitable clothing for the months following the news of the pregnancy, both among the less significant if you compare with other aspects.

But no …
You will feel comfortable to deal with and live in the best way your physical and emotional changes.
Clothes to wear are those that make you feel better, that make you stare at your ease.
It ‘proved that the clothes feel tight because of your physical change causes depression because you think they fattened too much.
Try and anticipate this circumstance, perhaps buying a few now since the head size higher. Please note that changes in the metabolism will cause a different perception of the outside temperature and more heat. The feet and legs at the end of the day tend to swell. It is important then the choice of suitable shoes and socks.

The choice of clothing for the future mother
Given that the maternity clothes are more expensive than normal and are used for a short period, we must be careful in their choice.
To get started you may see whether the garments of your husband there are shirts like that can be used outside the trousers.
The trousers with elastic and l ‘are the most elastic fit, adapt better to changes in your belly.

When you go shopping remember to ….

Dear Marina, I read with interest your column and I was wondering if you could rush to help us mother to be women, fun clothes for this period will cost a lot and in some cases are horrendous, I was demoralized both large brands (piu ‘che for other costs) that the big chains (for the poor also qaulita’e them ‘prices …). There are outlets, small businesses or sales on the Internet that can help us? I live in Rome. Thanks from now
Irene Fornari

Dear Irene, now here I am to you. I can only agree with his observation. The cost of Maternity clothing are never exactly affordable. And, in many cases, even the style leaves perplexed women, even in sweet expectation, wish to maintain their femininity, possibly with a touch of glamor.

Prénatal I think still the best overview in reality, both as a value for money and in terms of trendy image of the future mother.

In Rome, however, there is no outlet for this constellation known (instead present in Naples, Milan and Turin), where prices in traditional stores are not exorbitant.

But my advice anti-waste is another: that is, to buy second-hand store in one of several chains of secondhand selected. Segnalo as examples Mercatopoli (big franchise in the industry, which has also created a variant Baby Bazar, specializing in animals, objects, and accessories for children and for pregnant women), or Market. Both have outlets in the Capital.

First because it is in excellent condition (mostly fresh and dry), very little worn … Because biological period of gestation. Moreover, the future mother, after birth and returned to its original measures, do not use them anymore.

This will save at least 50% over list price. Then, more than elsewhere.

Another suggestion: I know that many pregnant women, for the reasons already said, do not buy clothes specifically Premaman. Naturally depends on the physical conformation of the person. But in many tell me to choose here and there – even in well-stocked markets, now back in vogue at any social level, with many items in step with the times – clothing and miscellaneous measures gradually to their superiors.

I hope it was useful to her wardrobe and the mothers of the next. It looks more straight low cost by experienced readers.

Pregnancy leads in all organs and systems maternal a series of physiological changes, most of which regress after birth.

Cardiovascular system: the cardiac output (GC) increases from 30 to 50% from the 6th week. gestation and reached its maximum between the 16th and 28th weeks. (usually around the 24th). The GC remains high until after the 30th week. And may decrease slightly because the uterus, increased volume, compresses the vena cava. During labor as GC increases of another 30%. After delivery the uterus contracts and the GC falls sharply to a value that is 15-25% higher than normal, then slowly decreases during the 3rd to 4th week. post-partum until, at the 6th week. reaches levels before pregnancy. The increase in GC is due, probably, to the changes that occur in utero-placental circulation. As the placenta and the fetus develops, the uterus requires a flow of blood increasing. At the end of pregnancy, the blood flow that reaches all’utero is about 1 l / min or 20% of normal GC. Since there is a marked increase in the volume of utero-placental circulation, you need a larger amount of blood. In addition, the movement in the area intervilloso acts in part as a shunt arterovenoso, further increasing the need for greater blood volume and increased GC.

The increase in GC is accompanied by an increase in heart rate, the normal 70 beats per minute to 80-90 beats / min, and a proportional increase in systolic output. The PA decreases in general (an increase of differential) as soon as you expand the utero-placental circulation during the 2nd quarter, but may return to normal during the 3rd quarter.

Physical activity causes an increase in the GC, heart rate, O2 consumption and respiratory volume per minute more during pregnancy and in post-partum. The movement iperdinamica of pregnancy, increases the frequency of puffs and accentuates functional cardiac sounds. A rx or ECG may show that the heart is located in a horizontal position, rotated to the left and with a transverse diameter increased. The beats of premature atrial or ventricular origin are reflected common during pregnancy. All these changes are physiological and should not lead to a misdiagnosis of heart disease, you can usually manage simply reassuring the patient. However, paroxysmal atrial tachycardia occurs most frequently in women and may require a prophylactic digitalization.

Blood: The volemia increases proportionately to the GC, but the increase in plasma volume is higher (close to 50%) than the mass of GR (25%) and the concentration of Hb can be decreased by dilution, 13, 3 to 12.1 g.

The counting of GB (from 5000 to 7000 ml) increases slightly to 9000-12000 ml. The total mass of the UK must increase to offset the increase in volemia. The result of the UK is unknown. A marked leukocytosis (20000 ml) occurs in the course of labor and in the early days of post-partum.

The need for iron increases up to a total of about 1 g during the entire pregnancy and is higher during the second half of pregnancy (6-7 mg / day). The fetus and placenta, using about 300 mg of iron concentration and increasing maternal GR requires an additional intake of 500 mg. Excretion accounts at a rate of 200 mg. We need an extra supply of iron (see below), because the amount absorbed by diet plus taken from reserves (on average, 300-500 mg) is generally insufficient to meet the needs of pregnancy.

Urinary system: alteration of renal function alongside those of cardiac function. The VFG increases from 30 to 50%, reaching the maximum between the 16th and 24th weeks. gestation and remains at these levels until near the end when it may slightly decrease due to the stagnation of position due to compression on the vena cava. The renal plasma flow increases accordingly. This increase in kidney function leads to a fall dell’azotemia values, usually less than 10 mg / dL (<3.6 mmol urea / l), while the values of creatinine down together to 0.7 mg / dL (62 mmol / l). The ureters are very wide because of hormonal influences (mostly of progesterone) and the obstacle by the pressure exerted dall’utero increased volume on ureters.

The renal function, such as heart disease, is much influenced by the posture during pregnancy. Normally, the kidney function is higher in the supine position and decreases in the standing, and these changes are accentuated during pregnancy. The cardiac and renal functions were also markedly increased in the side, because this position eliminates compression pregnant uteri on the large vessels that occurs when a woman is in the supine position, causing a stagnation in the lower limbs. This increase postural renal function is one reason why pregnant women need to urinate frequently when trying to sleep.

Respiratory system: changes in lung function during pregnancy is partly due to the progesterone and partly to the problems caused by postural volume uteri. The current volume and volume minute, the respiratory rate, pH and plasma O2 consumption increases, the reserves and Inspiratory espiratoria, volume and capacity and decreased plasma pCO2. The vital capacity and plasma Po2 does not undergo changes. The chest circumference increased by about 10 cm. You experience a significant hyperemia and considerable swelling of the airways. Sometimes, you determine nasofaringea obstruction symptoms and rhinitis, the trumpets of Eustachio are temporarily blocked and the tone and quality of voice changes. You notice a consistent effort to moderate dyspnea and deep breaths become more frequent.

And gastrointestinal systems epatobiliare: as the pregnancy progresses, the compression dall’utero exerted on the rectum and the last stretch of the colon can cause constipation. Moreover, there is a reduction in GI motility because of the high levels of progesterone lead to the relaxation of smooth muscle. The heartburn and gastric eructations feedback are common, due probably to the delayed gastric emptying and gastroesophageal reflux in turn caused by the relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter and the diaphragmatic hiatus. The peptic ulcer is rare in pregnancy and pre-existing ulcers often progresses; HCl production decreases. The incidence of diseases borne by the gallbladder is somehow increased, the women have had pregnancies, have more frequent problems at the expense of this body in relation to nulliparous. The pregnancy has an indefinable deleterious effect on liver function, especially on the transport of bile. The values of liver function tests routinely performed are normal, but the level of alkaline phosphatase increased gradually during the 3rd quarter and may be 2 or 3 times higher than normal at the end of pregnancy, the increase is due to placental production of this enzyme rather than to a liver dysfunction.

EDs: pregnancy alters the function of most of the endocrine glands, in part because the placenta produces hormones, and partly because most of hormones circulating in a form bound to proteins and this bond increases in pregnancy. The placenta produces a hormone (similar all’ormone stimulating the thyroid), which increases the thyroid function. The important increase in thyroid function can simulate a hyperthyroidism, often producing symptoms and signs such as tachycardia, palpitations, excessive perspiration, emotional instability and increase the volume of the thyroid. However, a true hyperthyroidism occurs in only 0.08% of pregnancies. The placenta can produce a form of ACTH, which increases the function of the adrenal gland. The levels of hormones increase surrenalici and this is probably the cause of striae pinkish skin known as stretch marks, and one of the factors contributing dell’edema. The increased levels of glicocorticoidi, estrogen and progesterone alter glucose metabolism and increase the insulin the additional stress caused by pregnancy and, probably, increased increzione of lattogeno human placenta. The insulinasi produced by the placenta may also increase the demand for insulin, so patients suffering from a condition often develop prediabetica manifeste forms of diabetes (see also Diabetes mellitus in Cap. 251). The placenta produces a hormone stimulating the melanocytes, which increases skin pigmentation el’hCG, a trophic hormone that acts almost like the follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone in supporting the corpus luteum and thus prevent ovulation.

Skin: The cloasma (mask of pregnancy), a pigmentation spots a brownish color, can be seen on the forehead and cheekbones. Commonly, it increases the pigmentation of the mammary areola and appears a dark line in the middle longitudinal dell’addome. Also increases the incidence of teleangectasie (usually just above the waist) and dilated capillaries with thin walls (especially at the lower limbs

Honestly I think that passing from the 17th week of pregnancy, it might be necessarie to buy at least a maternity trouser and a maternity jeans.

Now the issue is: should I spend a hundred pounds or should I buy anything I find at 30 – 35 pounds?

There are plenty of sites and stores offering maternity wear. Which one do you think it worth?

Please feel free to comment anything you want on this.
